A lot of my friends and colleagues have bought their first homes recently. I moved about 9 months ago to my boyfriend’s new place, so I can perfectly relate to all the troubles they are going through.
Now I’m on a mission to make their lives a bit more colourful during this stressful time.
This super-informative article from Buzzfeed gives a solidly good list of non-trivial housewarming gifts, my favourites being a waterproof iPod speaker for those long shower sessions and a jar full of DIY goodies (oh, it’s amusing how much easier one’s life becomes when they just have the right tools for the job!). Definitely check this out, if you need some inspiration: http://www.buzzfeed.com/mackenziekruvant/housewarming-gifts-people-actually-want#1dcde2e
I’d like to add one thing to this list, which could save your friends a lot of headache. It took me a long time to figure out how I wanted our new home to look and feel like: the colours, the style, the paintings, the lighting…you name it! I spent countless hours searching for tips online and still got some of it wrong.
So, next time one of my friends invites me to a housewarming party, I will come with two tickets to an interior design show. Like this one, which is finishing tonight: http://www.100percentdesign.co.uk/
It’s a great opportunity to mingle with top interior designers, see amazing design solutions, you would never think of yourself, and simply find out how much you will need to spend by comparing thousands of brands.
